What are the documents I have to attach with the Application? GATE Qualified Candidates and IIT Graduates with B.Tech. Degree should enclose the following documents (if applicable) along with your application:
SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate. To consider under OBC category, candidates should submit the OBC (Non-creamy layer) certificate in the format prescribed by Government of India issued by competent authorities available in this website (Click here to download). Submission of only BC or MBC certificate will not be treated as OBC category. If no OBC (Non-creamy layer) certificate copy is enclosed, the candidate will be treated under General category.
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates can also specify if they belong to the 'minority' class during application. Such candidates should attach the 'minority' declaration form (Click here to download). The declaration is to submit the copy of the minority certificate at a later date. (The date will be mentioned in this website later).

Do I have to send semester registration fees along with the application form? No, you should not send semester Registration fee along with the application form.
How will I know the status of my application? Yes, you can view/print the application form later by checking the application status and by using your M.Tech. application number and password, which was sent to you by email.

Can I change the preferences after submitting the application? Changes (if any) in the application contents should be sent as a separate request along with a copy of the completed application. Based on a "signed" document only, corrections will be incorporated. Changes in choices or order of preference will not be entertained after 20-04-2012.
I have missed to take a print of my application at the end of my application process. How will I get access to it? Yes, you can view/print the application form later by clicking the 'Application Status' link in this website and by using your M.Tech. application number and password. After successful registration of the application, you will receive an email with your application number and the password.
When and how do I know whether I have been offered a programme? First set of offers for HTTA and N-HTTA seats are likely to be sent (by email and speed post) in the first week of May 2012. Second and subsequent offers may be made depending on the availability.
What are the documents I have to send along with the offer acceptance? The candidates have to send their acceptance, ORIGINAL GATE Scorecard together with the demand draft(s) for the prescribed fees within 10 days of offer to:

Can I withdraw after accepting the offer? Yes. We shall return the ORIGINAL GATE scorecard by SPEED POST within one/two days of receiving your signed letter/fax mentioning that you are withdrawing from the M.Tech admission process to IIT Madras. We shall retain 1000/- as processing fees, and the balance amount will be returned within a month.
After declining the offer can I be considered for further offers? No.
Is there any chance for me to move up in my preference and what am I supposed to do for that? There is a possibility of updating the branch/stream for the candidates who have already accepted the offer of admission, depending upon the availability of vacancies subsequently. Please note that during the updating, depending on the indicated order of preference, it is possible for a candidate to switch from a HTTA seat to a N-HTTA seat if N-HTTA is higher in order of preference given by the candidate.
Can I send the photocopy of my GATE scorecard? No. You need to send the ORIGINAL GATE scorecard only. This is to ensure that a candidate does not accept offers of admission from more than one institute.
I am doing an M. Tech. programme and I have submitted my GATE scorecard to the college. Am I eligible to apply for an M. Tech. programme at IIT Madras using the same GATE scorecard? If you are already receiving HTTA at another institute, then you are not eligible for an M. Tech. Programme at IIT Madras.
What is spot admission? Depending upon the final number of vacancies and availability of seats in different streams before the closure of admissions, some of the candidates, who have already applied but could not secure admission in the first, second and subsequent offers will be informed to appear before the Admission Committee at GATE Office of the Institute with relevant documents and fees. The list of candidates called for spot admission will also be displayed on the web. The number of vacant seats available will be indicated at that time. Admission will be offered for HTTA and N-HTTA vacant seats on the spot to suitable candidates as per the procedure indicated above. They should join immediately by paying the fees. This is an additional opportunity provided and hence candidates should be prepared to take the risk of not getting a seat. Candidates appearing for Spot Admission will have to travel at their own expense. If all the seats are filled during the first, second and subsequent offers, spot admission may not be operated.
Can I change to another M. Tech. programme after a semester? No.
Will I be eligible for conversion to Ph. D. programme? M.Tech. students will be eligible for conversion to M.S./Ph.D. if they satisfy the following criteria:
The candidate should have successfully completed a minimum of 2 semesters in the M.Tech. programme.
The candidate should have a minimum CGPA of 8.0 in the prescribed courses.
A committee duly constituted by the Head of the Department will consider such applications for conversion to M.S./Ph.D. and make its recommendation.
